Wells - Sarah Wyant

Mrs. Sarah Wells, aged 79
of the northeast part of Sugar Creek township was buried here at the
IOOF cemetery last Sunday afternoon. She was the mother of Albert Wells
who became suddenly insane while crossing a field with his four little
boys on the evening of June 1, 1899 and who on approaching an old and
open well began throwing his little sons in the well. He succeeded in
killing two of them before neighbors came to the rescue of the boys. Mr.
Wells is still in the insane asylum, hopelessly insane.

Bowers News -- arah E. Wells died at her home 3 1/2 miles northeast of here
(Darlington) Friday morning May 1 after a prolonged illness of
complicaiton of diseases, together with infirmities of age which was the
cause of her demise. Sarah E. Wyant was born on theplace where her
death occurred Feb 1, 1836 and was therefore 78 year 3 months old. She
was united in marriage to William F. Wells Dec 1851. Four children were
born, one dying in infancy, Alfred, Alice Holloway of near darlington
and Mary A. Mills, who since the death of the father some 13 years ago
remained and cared for th emother. She united with the Methodist Church
at age 12 and was ever a consistent and staunch worker for the cause,
honest and upright in her dealing, which was a true example of Christian
character. On the morning of her death she repeated a part of the 23rd
psalm and expressed a readiness in God's grace. Funeral services were
conducted at Potato Creek Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by her
pastor, Rev. Nicely, interment in IOOF Cemetery beside the husband. Many
were the flowers and beautiful which paid a fittingg tribute to the
life.
